We are looking for an experienced Chief Technology Officer to help us create game-changing alternative protein products. As CTO, you will be in charge of pioneering our AI platform - the literal brain of our company - to continuously find winning combinations of ingredients and create the next generation of alternative protein products. You will report directly to the CEO and work closely with our Product and R&D teams to ensure clear communication paths across relevant departments. Your “roll-up your sleeves and dive in head first”-mentality is perfectly balanced with your ability to move purposefully and result-oriented.

Your responsibilities

• As part of the management team, you will oversee all aspects of the Engineering Team, including technology blueprint, technology stack, technical strategy, hiring and retaining talent.

• You will spearhead the development and continuous improvement of our AI platform, collaborate with the Business strategy, R&D and product teams on data-driven discoveries as well as give expert technical guidance to create the world’s best alternative protein products.

• You will be crafting our technological roadmap in alignment with our strategic goals in order to meet ambitious milestones.

• You will be in charge of scouting the newest technological advancements in the area of data science, computational biology and simulations to provide expert technical guidance to go beyond best practices. 

• You will develop and manage relationships with relevant scientific institutes and drive collaborations in order to stay on top of our ambitious roadmap.

• You possess the ability to anticipate how technological developments will impact the firm's speed and success and make decisions in line with our goals and budget.

• You will play a major role in building up our technical capabilities and take on a driving role in the hiring of your team.

• You will mentor, motivate, and lead the engineering team to support a vibrant and productive engineering culture.

• You will provide hands-on technology leadership to the engineering team and actively engage in sprint planning, delivery and managing the releases.

• You will ensure consistent best practices, processes, and procedures for software development, quality assurance, data protection, security and maintenance.

Your profile

• You are hungry to build up the technological and data-driven capabilities primed to shake up the current food system and generate true impact.

• You have 5+ years of experience as CTO or similar leadership positions (technology and people leader) in a relevant industry building up and leading high-performing data science and engineering teams.

• You have 7+ years of hands-on experience with technologies like Machine Learning, NLP, Graph Theory, Deep Learning or AI using programming languages like Python, Java, R, or Scala and collaborating with engineering teams to develop prototypes and software products deployed across varied cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) and on-prem environments.

• You have the proven ability to set technical vision and build the technical product roadmap from experimentation to scale, drive continuous product improvement, effectively align resources and technologies to achieve key business priorities, including appropriate scope, high quality and timely product releases.

• You can demonstrate a profound know-how in computational biology and simulation, bioinformatics, probability and statistics, inclusive of machine learning, experimental design, and optimization with a proven track record.

• You have a hands-on mentality and are a self-starter and possess a highly collaborative attitude.

• You have exceptional people and communication skills: you know how to give and receive feedback constructively and provide mentorship.

• You are fluent (speaking and writing) in English and German.

• Previous experience in the alternative protein industry is a big plus.
